Our team members are collaborative, creative, professional, expert and entrepreneurial.  Joining our team requires skill, daring, leadership, teaming, humor and a love of interiors.  We are presently searching for a Director of Operations  in our San Francisco office.  The Director of Operations is responsible for the financial management of an office, as well as providing overall direction for client service activities and providing leadership to staff. 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Develops, implements and monitors the budget.
  • Provides revenue projections based on active and prospective billings.
  • Identifies and implements methods of increasing billable hours and reducing costs.
  • Directs project management and staffing activities.
  • Ensures that project quality meets established standards.
  • Introduces computer information technology (in conjunction with IT).
  • Works with the Managing Principal/Director to improve the quality of client services and maintain the office's reputation as a leader in interior design.
  • Coordinates with Marketing to ensure that client services are marketed effectively.
  • Participates in industry organizations to increase the firm's profile and to develop marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Stays abreast of current developments, trends and practices within the industry. Disseminates information, as appropriate, to staff and makes recommendations to management.
  • Participates in office recruitment, training and evaluations.
  • Provides guidance, leadership and coaching for all office employees.


  • Graduate of an accredited architecture or design school.
  • Licensed architect preferred.
  • 10+ years on commercial interior design projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the commercial interior architecture and/or design industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of interior design.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial management concepts and the budget process.
  • Extensive knowledge of design intent and practices.
  • Intermediate MS Office application skills.
  • Familiar with the range of computerized information systems applicable to client services.
  • Advanced verbal and written communications skills.
  • Advanced presentation and graphic communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead through a combination of direct authority and subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to guide and supervise the work of others.
  • Advanced supervisory, leadership and team building skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of budget preparation and the proven ability to manage within budgetary constraints.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and implement initiatives that contain costs and maximize profitability.

Working Conditions: For the majority of the time the Director of Operations will be sitting in an office with limited physical requirements.  This may require individuals to bend, stretch, twist and reach.  On occasion individuals will be required to visit a client site to perform site verifications and field surveys.  The position is not subject to occupational and safety risks.
