We devise sustainable solutions that ensure future viability and create value. We are currently seeking a Preservation Architect to join the firm.


Responsibilities include documentation and conditions assessments of existing buildings for a variety of institutional and residential projects that include a combination of building conservation (exterior building envelope repairs), adaptive reuse (interior and exterior alterations) and/or rehabilitation (interior alterations). The position requires working with the firm's Principal and the rest of the staff to develop interior renovations or exterior repair documents for designated Landmarks or Landmark-quality buildings. Other responsibilities include project documentation for compliance with regulatory agencies (DOB, LPC, SHPO, etc.) and follow up with the same during the review and approval process; communicating with clients, consultants and Contractors; as well as monitoring project deliverables and schedule.


An understanding of historic materials and assemblies, as well as their decay pattern and the ability to detail and specify the required repairs is required. Experience with renovation projects is also required, including submission to, and approval by NYC LPC and DOB. Adaptability to a dynamic work environment coupled with substantial experience in all aspects of Construction Administration, including site observations; managing contractor submittals and RFIs is essential. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while responding timely to deadlines is expected. We are looking for a motivated, self-driven applicant with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage in-house production while focusing on clients' needs. The ideal candidate would have an architectural degree and/or a M Sc in Historic Preservation or related field, as well as a minimum of five (5) years of previous experience working at an architectural office. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office is required, as well as hand sketching for on-site existing conditions documentation along with willingness to perform fieldwork. Architectural registration (a license or completion of most of the ARE exams) is desired but not required.
