Position Description:

New Waterloo is a hospitality management and development company based in Austin, Texas. New Waterloo’s current projects include La Condesa, Hotel Ella, Goodall’s Kitchen, South Congress Hotel, Café No Sé, Central Standard, Mañana, Otoko, Il Brutto, Le Politique, and Sway South 1st, Sway Rock Rose, and Sway West Lake Hills.

Reporting to the Director of Design, the Designer will be accountable for the creative vision of impactful design initiatives from concept through logistics and install. The designer will be trusted to make key design decisions, under the overall creative direction of the Director of Design. A successful designer will fearlessly push boundaries, creating trends instead of following them. They will be innovative, scrappy, and have grit, while also exercising organizational abilities to ensure projects are delivered on-brand, on-time, and on-budget. This is a creative role.

● You are an experienced architectural or interior designer with 3-5 years of experience in a design firm or in-house design team. Hospitality or retail design experience is a plus.

● You hold a Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Architecture or Interior Design.

● You have a proven track record of managing and executing successful design initiatives. You understand sequencing and project management as a backbone for successful design.

● You have a solutions-oriented attitude and confidence to autonomously make fast-paced decisions.

● You have strong written and verbal communication skills.

● You believe that design should be forward-looking, never fashionable, and that distinctive experiences set apart the extraordinary.

● You believe that a good hotel, restaurant or event is an experience, not just a transaction.

● You’re proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam, AutoCAD and SketchUp. Revit experience is a plus.

● You have strong spatial understanding, ability to read and translate detailed construction drawings.

● You have the ability to read and create thorough specification packages. Experience with project management software is preferred, but not required.

● Work closely with the Director of Design to assist in all phases of the design process, from concept to handover.

● Create mood boards, design intent documents, plan and elevation drawings, shop drawings, 3d models, and presentations for the review of the DoD, while maintaining New Waterloo standards of documentation and organization.

● Work closely with the project management team on the specification and delivery of schedules, spec books, budgets, and project deliverables.

● Ensure that the aesthetic of new and existing New Waterloo spaces align with the overall design intent.

● Take ownership of project tasks, deadlines, and report progress to project managers and the DoD.

● Work on 3D models, prototypes, mock-ups, and model rooms to iteratively better the designs.

● Attend site meetings and strategy meetings to create action items for the design team.

● Refine internal processes, continually making the department more efficient.

● Manage the New Waterloo design library, handle reorders, organize samples, and communicate with vendors.

● Pull together internal and external design presentations, while ensuring the NW brand is consistent and clear across all communications.

● Make finish, fixture, fabric, lighting, hardware, and furnishing selections that align with project design parameters.

● Must be able to provide own transportation (pending acceptable driving record screening) in supporting local properties.

● Must provide cell phone for daily communication with internal team and external logistics.

● Travel and task-force as needed to projects in new markets, about 25%. This may vary immediately around a new project opening.
