There job description reads as follows: We are a 55-person Chicago based firm with a growing and diverse practice.  In addition to our traditional Architectural practice, we have an Accessibility Consulting Group specializing in accessibility related issues (ADA/FHA/UFAS). Job Description

We are in the process of expanding our Accessibility Consulting Group in efforts to create a stronger presence in the Los Angeles, CA area.  We are seeking a licensed Architect who is also a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) to join our talented and energetic team.  The successful candidate will be an Our client employee and work on accessibility projects throughout the west coast but primarily in the Los Angeles area.  Initially, the candidate will work out of his or her home supporting our west coast clients.  Most of the work will entail accessibility surveys of built residential properties in the city of Los Angeles and the surrounding area.  Survey findings will then be documented in field reports. Occasional out of town travel to perform similar property inspections will be required.

The successful candidate must exhibit a strong working knowledge with the accessibility requirements of Sections 11A and 11B of the California Building Code as well as all other related accessibility standards including the ADA, FHA, ANSI A117.1 and Section 504-UFAS.  The position involves conducting on-site inspections of existing residential facilities using survey forms to identify and record observed deficiencies. Final reports will then be generated by the individual documenting observed deficiencies, referencing the applicable accessibility standard(s), and suggested barrier removal corrective actions. 

In addition, the candidate will be involved with peer accessibility plan reviews for new multi-family projects during the design phase, and construction observation reviews throughout construction.

This is a permanent position with a with an excellent opportunity for growth.  Our client’s plan is to establish a strong presence and open a branch office in the Los Angeles area to serve our west coast clients.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate must:

  • Have a degree in architecture with a minimum of 5 years of relevant accessibility consulting experience. 
  • Be a licensed Architect in the State of California
  • Be a California Certified Access Specialist (CASp)
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with multi-family residential projects through the application of the accessibility design standards of the California Building Standards Code, Chapter 11A and 11B (2016 CBC); the 2010 ADA Standards; the Fair Housing Act (FHA); ICC/ANSI A117.1- (ANSI); and the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS).
  • Be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, including, Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.  Experience with Bluebeam is a plus.  Experience with AutoCAD and Revit while desirable, is not required.
  • Provide local leadership with support from our 20-person Accessibility Consulting Group out of the Chicago office.
  • Be able to work independently and remotely with minimum supervision.
  • Be detailed oriented with excellent organizational, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Be able to develop, manage and maintain client relationships.
