A local Portland firm founded in 1994, CHA is passionate about design and community-building through our work in affordable housing, historic preservation, public, commercial, institutional and spiritual projects. Culture

CHA believes in staff development, open participation, and encourages staff to be involved in firm initiatives. In-house committees allow staff to focus on areas of interest and have an influence on office operations. Our Innovation Lab grant offers opportunities for independent research projects. As an office, we participate in a variety of community service activities throughout the year and support individual efforts through paid time for volunteering at area service organizations. Project Architect Position

As a Project Architect you will be the primary lead for one or perhaps several projects. You will lead a team (or teams) through all phases and activities of a design project while working directly with clients, coordinating with consultants and mentoring less-experienced staff. Your ability to communicate clearly, think strategically, collaborate and multitask will be part of your daily work.

Position Requirements (skills you bring to the job):

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited school of architecture
  • 7 + years of experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphic skills necessary to communicate concepts and solutions to team members, clients, consultants, contractors, and the public
  • Strong organization, multi-tasking, and time management skills
  • Ability to contribute to all phases of a project from marketing and pre-design services through programming, concept design, design documentation and construction administration
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of architectural and engineering components of buildings and their interrelationships
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam and Revit.
  • Ability to work independently and manage others through design and construction

Preferences

  • Licensed Architect
  • Sustainability Credentials: LEED AP, CPHD, WELL
  • Experience with Land-Use process and Community Engagement facilitation
  • Experience in Multifamily housing, Multi-Use, Commercial and/or public/governmental projects

Responsibilities (activities you will do):

  •  Develop, articulate, define and execute the project scope for a wide variety of projects.
  •  Lead the design, documentation and specifications as an individual or as leader of a project team
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of a project team and outside consultants
  • Coordinate with public agencies to obtain building permits.
  • Participate in and/or lead client interactions.
  • Adhere to and ensure CHA processes, and graphic standards are met.
  • Communicate project deadlines, project milestones, staffing needs and changes with project manager.
  • Be a recognized resource to other CHA staff.
  • Review the work of the project team and consultants for quality, clarity and commitment to client and CHA standards.
  • Respond to contractor questions during bidding/negotiations
  • Perform Construction Administration tasks
