At Omgivning, we are placemakers and creative problem-solvers. Our designers breathe new life into urban spaces through richly programmed environments that inspire warmth and vitality.

We’re proud of our unusually great office culture, which relies on collaboration, opportunity-sharing and low egos. We enjoy strong relationships with consultants and clients and our projects are among Los Angeles's most visible. We love to explore the fascinating place that is downtown LA, on tours of our own construction projects or during happy hours at our nearby bars and restaurants. We don’t follow the mold of traditional architecture firms.

Working here means you’ll dive into the extraordinary challenges of making new projects from existing structures. You’ll work closely with a range of city agencies and add to our collective understanding of all phases of design and construction.

Right now, some of our largest and most complex adaptive-reuse work is moving into new phases, and many new projects are starting up. We’re looking for someone who understands what’s ahead.

Job Duties:

  • Ensure design criteria, including the vision of the project, client requirements, planning and statutory requirements, have been met.
  • Perform work involving conventional architecture practice, but also address/identify integration of design requirements, suitability of materials or procedures, and construction coordination.
  • Work directly with Director/Project Manager in overseeing coordinated and QC-verified construction documents. Involved in all design phases overseeing quality control.
  • Uphold clear team communication and adherence to deadlines.
  • Conduct plan reviews that specifically address code and disabled-access compliance issues. Resolve construction and design challenges to help ensure compliance with local and state codes.
  • Identify and provide solutions for potential design issues.
  • Conduct periodic site visits throughout various phases of construction to ensure construction activities comply with construction documents and are of the highest quality.
  • Consult/research manufacturers of specified materials, products and/or equipment.
  • Identify assembly, detail and material applications that could be problematic.
  • Train and mentor team in quality management planning.
  • Review office design standards and assist in developing quality-management systems.
