DESCRIPTION 

Recently relocated to the beautiful Arts District of Hermosa Beach, we are seeking an experienced, growth-oriented Studio Director to serve and lead our expanding team. We specialize in high-end custom residential homes and are expanding into the commercial sector. This role requires an individual who creates world-class design through mentoring and inspiring others, who understands the inner workings of an architectural practice, and who is invested in the team they are responsible for cultivating.

The candidate’s main responsibility is to direct our staff in producing our architectural services and manage our client relationships. This position requires a thorough understanding and appreciation for the life of a project, as well as an ability and inclination to think creatively about the tools, processes, and interpersonal dynamics involved in leading a growing design studio.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION

As Studio Director, an individual shall:

Strategy & Execution

  • Assist in identifying and implementing action plans to achieve firm-wide goals set by leadership team.

External Relationships

  • Oversee all client relationships & agreements.

  • Oversee all vendor and consultant relationships & agreements.

Internal Relationships

  • Contribute openly and honestly as a member of the leadership team, which is composed of three other individuals.

  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable all architectural staff.

  • Mentor, encourage, empower, and nurture architectural staff in professional development.

  • Report directly to the Founder/Principal.

Projects

  • Oversee all architectural services.

  • Direct all architecture-related operations & deliverables.

  • Oversee all projects schedules, budgets, invoicing, and resourcing.

  • Provide QAQC for all projects.

  • Ensure that projects are delivered with design excellence, on time, at or above targeted profitability, and exceeding client expectation.

 KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

These are the minimum qualifications for the role:

  • 10+ years of experience in a residential architecture firm 
  • Licensed architect
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in architecture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience in all phases of architectural projects
  • Strong interest in firm management
  • Ability to schedule staffing on projects in a fluid environment
  • Strong leadership and self- motivation
  • Excellent delegation skills
  • Highly skilled technically
  • High level of design competence
  • Good awareness of design, industry trends, materials, innovations and the aptitude to translate these ideas
  • Punctual & organized
  • Knowledge of California Residential Building Codes
