At Blitz we believe that design should tell a story — an interesting and compelling story. What are we about? Where do we stand? What are our passions and what makes us happy? These are legitimate questions and we should seek answers to them throughout the design process.

About Blitz

Blitz is an award winning design firm specializing in commercial architecture and workplace design. We provide the complete range of architectural services required to take a project from programming through construction. Our team of architects and interior and graphic designers work as one to create thoughtful design solutions with technical rigor.

About the Opportunity

The Design Director position will be based in the Denver studio. It is part of the Senior Leadership Team, and will report directly to Blitz’s Partners, Melissa Hanley and Seth Hanley.

Design Directors at Blitz are champions of the conceptual approach of all Blitz projects. Design Directors advance the design aesthetic and profile of the firm. They identify and establish studio design narratives. They are responsible for coordinating, and on key projects, leading design reviews in coordination with other studio design directors. They are responsible for promoting the Blitz values as well as the strategic plans developed in collaboration with the Partners and the Senior Leadership Team.

Design Directors will lead the “deep dive” with the project teams during programming, concept development, and schematic design to define new experiences and opportunities for clients. They are responsible for enforcing uniformly high production standards in coordination with the Technical Director. They are expected to assist the project teams in preparing architectural drawings, presentations and construction documents as required as well as coordinate the documents with project consultants and contractors. They shall maintain awareness of industry trends and actively share this knowledge with the rest of the firm. They actively train and mentor emerging talent across all studios through the creation of educational programs and various ad-hoc training opportunities. Design Directors are expected to demonstrate exceptional leadership through the creation of a healthy and successful environment in which Blitz staff feel valued and activated to do their best work.

In addition to their design leadership activities, Design Directors craft and deliver pitches / proposals for new projects. They participate in community design events and competitions. They act as a conduit between Blitz and the design community and actively work to connect and engage junior staff with the broader design community. Though not a business development role, the Design Director is expected to participate in business development activities for key contacts / relationships in coordination with the Partners and the Marketing team.

Though not a primary activity, they will also participate in occasional hiring interviews for key team members as required.
