The Opportunity:           

We are seeking a collaborative team player who is dedicated and passionate about interior design for educational spaces, with strong design and problem solving skills for opportunities as an Interior Designer. The individual will participate in projects of all sizes and levels of complexity from project start-up through completion within the education practice area. The candidate will support project teams, produce test fits, and provide programming, design solutions and presentations, construction documents and participate in construction administration services. The Interior Designer will be responsible for project deliverables and meeting overall project design schedules in tandem with the project team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and creates project designs and plans of all phases of one or more projects and has responsibility for preparing presentations and design drawings.
  • Works collaboratively with project architects and designers to develop cohesive project design language.
  • Will participate in programming, visioning and site assessment tasks.
  • Produces drawings and presentations for the client’s review and feedback.
  • Attends client meetings and conducts interviews to collect requirements, presents findings and provide recommendations.
  • Responsible for developing design solutions and technical accuracy of projects.
  • May supervise or perform site observations activities.
  • Record/archive all drawings, data and project information.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of materials and furniture products and equipment options available.
  • Ability to effectively communicate intent, plans, status, issues, alternatives, solutions, and resolve conflicts.
  • Collaborate with design team to meet functional, aesthetic, budgetary and schedule requirements. FF&E design and documentation including preliminary budgets, compiles specifications and coordinate with purchasing agents.
  • Field verify space dimensions, conditions and when applicable, existing furniture inventory.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Interior Design or Architecture is required.
  • Minimum of 6 to 10 years’ of project experience related to Primary and Secondary or Higher Education spaces.

  • Professional Registration in Interior Design preferred.
  • Experience working with various state agencies related to the approval and financing of public academic projects including project procurement under MGL Chapter 149 and Chapter 149(a).

  • Demonstrated capacity for design sensitivity and sustainability requirements.
  • Have a working knowledge of industry standards, codes and construction documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced Revit skills required. AutoCAD, Graphic rendering – including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, 3D modeling and presentation skills a plus.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite.
  • Familiarity with chemicals of concern, material health issues and specifying materials to meet Red List compliance & LEED v4.1 material credits preferred.
  • Understanding of principles of biophilia and experience utilizing them in project designs preferred.
  • Must be a team player and possess the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely and reliable service to client(s).
  • Strong technical and graphic communication skills. Ability to present information in an effective way.
  • Ability to collaborate, problem solve, multi-task and adapt to change quickly when necessary.
  • LEED or WELL accredited or pursuing accreditation preferred.
