Stayner Architects is a small, vertically-integrated architecture practice located in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

We are architects, designers, developers and builders. We are hands-on, process-driven, and work across multiple scales from graphic design to college campuses. We create structures for civic-minded clients in the public and private realms.

We primarily operate in the American West. We are currently licensed to practice architecture in California, Hawai’i, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico*. We are licensed as a general contractor in California. Additionally, our in-house development arm conceptualizes, constructs, and manages projects in food and beverage, hospitality, and commercial rental property in Southern California.

Our ideal candidate is excited about communicating both our design and our development/hospitality projects to a broader audience of potential clients, future employees, the press, and awards juries. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate or individual interested in building a career within the design field. Current marketing and PR activities for our in-house development projects include a micro-hotel and event space, restaurants, a wine shop, a co-working office, and marketing of for-sale residential projects.

In this role you will work with our team to identify, track, and pursue new business opportunities; produce new content; attract new projects across the firm’s markets and services, including writing proposals and responding to RFP/RFQs; make outreach to professional contacts; manage awards submittals; maintain websites; produce events such as lectures, meetings, project visits, and social activities; pitch projects to editors and journalists; produce print and online content; direct and managing social media presence for the architecture firm and affiliated businesses; research and approach other companies regarding product placement and partnerships; and will perform some office management functions.

In many firms of our small size this role is largely or entirely outsourced to PR firms. However, we see this in-house position contributing to the overall strategy of the practice as well as to the design and representation of individual projects.

For this position, you . . . :

  • Have a high school diploma or GED, although a bachelor’s degree is preferred. A degree in architecture, design, art history, or marketing is not required. We are equally interested in applicants with backgrounds in the liberal arts or other fields. Experience in marketing and PR are helpful, although, enthusiasm, eloquence, and confidence are much more important.

  • Have a strong interest in architecture, design, development, and hospitality.

  • An enthusiasm for rolling up your sleeves, figuring out creative solutions to new challenges, and placing yourself in the position of clients.

  • Have an ability to connect with varied audiences through written communication, strong editing skills, photography, and exceptional verbal communication. You should be as comfortable picking up the phone and calling someone as you are sending an email or posting an image on Instagram. You should be able to work independently but also able to work collaboratively with design and management staff.

  • Are articulate, engaged, and proactive. You should be a thoughtful person with strong interpersonal skills. In many cases you will be the first contact that the public and journalists/editors have with our practice and its projects.

  • Have strategic thinking skills, an ability to define and achieve goals, and the ability to work autonomously. Have an attention to detail.

  • Have some experience in Photoshop, In-Design, and Google Suite.

  • Have the legal permits or visas required to work in the US. If needed, we are open to work with the right candidate to obtain these authorizations.

Stayner Architects . . . :

  • Provides generous paid time off, family (maternity/paternity) leave, a competitive health care plan, continuing education, commuting benefits, and support for licensure.

  • Strives to maintain a supportive, small-firm culture with a healthy work-life balance, reasonable hours, a collaborative work environment, and a breadth of project types and creative roles.

  • Produces projects that we hope are at once thoughtful, ethical, ecological, and innovative. We work hard to produce work that our team is proud of and that you would be proud to communicate to the world.

  • Provides mentoring, training, and opportunities for growth and advancement within the practice.

This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position with salary commensurate with experience.
