SUMMARY:      Person with 5 or more years direct experience working with a user base of 250 or more who possesses the skills and abilities to proactively lead, manage and improve the efforts, visibility and functionality of IT department and its resources within the company in addition to handling all coordination with owners, staff and outside vendors as required.  Must have advanced knowledge of Servers, Exchange and Microsoft offerings(including Office 365) and exposure to managing AEC softwares such as: Auto CAD, Revit, Lumion, etc as well as third party programs aimed at increasing the efficiency of such programs.  Responsible, in conjunction with leadership and Operations for the research, presentation and implementation of company wide improvements.  Proactively works with established and emerging firm and functional area leadership to ensure that the evolving goals of the organization are met and supported from an IT perspective.


A combination of all or most of these essential duties are expected of the Director of IT position within AO;

Networking / Computer Systems

a.     Plans and implements additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting infrastructure company-wide in coordination with company leadership.

b.     Oversees the implementation of network security at the corporate level.

c.     Anticipates future network needs, identifies proactive solutions to satisfy needs.

d.     Proactively identify network improvements and cost savings.

e.     Proactively supports and enhances the ability of end users to work remotely including the research of cloud based alternatives.


a.     Oversees the planning and management and improvement of the company’s telephone system and company-wide upgrade efforts.

b.     Manages the company cell phone portfolio, calling and data plans.

Help Desk Administration

a.             Oversees the management of corporate help desk activities and resolves escalated issues as necessary.

b.             Proactively looks to increase levels of service and customer satisfaction.

Asset Management

a.             Helps establish and build relationships with vendors in conjunction with corporate leadership.

b.             Proactively manages vendor relationships in the interest of staying current with latest offerings and availing the company of any potential cost savings as well as being aware of scheduled cost increases and upgrades.

c.             Oversees all IT-related purchasing and budget usage; works with Accounting to develop budgets.

d.             Holds responsibility for capacity planning and scheduling vendor negotiations related to IT.


a.     Manages licenses at the corporate level for all software.

b.     Oversees support and helps drive utilization and adoption of as well as supports educational efforts on the use of “core” company sofwares such as Office 365, Blue Beam and Newforma.

c.     Works collaboratively with Design Technologists across the company to proactively support end users and their uptime as well as innovation and process improvements around softwares which the Design Technologists may have specialized knowledge of or experience with.

d.     Works proactively to establish and improve baselines for configurations, deployment and upgrade schedules of all software in the environment.


a.     Responsible for the management and deployment of all computer hardware throughout the organization

b.     Works proactively to establish and improve baselines for configurations and deployment schedules of all new and repurposed hardware in the environment.


a.     Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of network environment.

b.     Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of all baselines.

c.     Responsible for the complete and accurate documentation of all company procedures as they relate to the IT department.


a.     None required.

b.     MCP/MCSE certifications preferred.

c.     Comp TIA A+ preferred.

d.     CCNA preferred.

e.     Autodesk Certified Professionals preferred.


Some supervisory responsibilities associated with position.  Exercises staff oversight to ensure new operations plans, policies, procedures and transition/migration are consistent with overall company goals and objectives.

  • At least 5 years similar experience is required to be considered for this job. 
  • Bachelor Degree preferred.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Intermediate Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Advanced Skills:  Ability to apply and extrapolate from common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
