ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT MANAGER - PROJECT ARCHITECT

Mid-sized NJ Architecture and Engineering firm seeks full time architectural project manager for work on mixed use and multi-family design and construction projects. The architectural project manager will be responsible for overseeing the design, detailing, and construction of projects undertaken by the firm.  This team member participates in all stages of the project including preliminary design, planning and approvals, construction documents, and construction phase administration. The candidate should have a particular sense and care for architectural design and detailing, building code compliance, project time management, budget, team management, and technical quality of the products and services rendered. As the firm’s service offerings include full project engineering, this team member will be expected to coordinate their work with the other members of the engineering team(s) and should have an understanding of building and structural systems. RESPONSIBILITIES

The architectural project manager shall be responsible to effectively execute various tasks and responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

  • Analysis of project context, building materials, and precedents.
  • Conceptual and preliminary design of building in plan, section, and elevation.
  • 3D visualization of design concepts through various mediums including but not limited to hand sketching, computerized renderings, and physical models.
  • Project site planning, zoning/local code analysis and application.
  • Building Code analysis and application including but not limited to The International Building Code NJ Edition, The International Residential Code NJ Edition, ANSI A117.1-2003, and the NJ Barrier Free Subcode.
  • Designs and details architectural systems and components for multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial buildings including envelope and interiors.
  • Reads and interprets drawings, technical documentation, schematics, and computer-generated reports/information.
  • Attends meetings with owners, clients, or consultants as needed.
  • Assists staff in the development of technical documentation, proposals, and presentations to clients.
  • Assists the design team in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines.
  • Assists in the design, drawing, and implementation of in house engineering as required (C,S,M,E,P)
  • Communicates design requirements with contractors and clients to determine project scope and feasibility.
  • Executes specific architectural studies and design analyses using industry software.
  • Accompanies staff in performing project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
  • Learns to understand company technical policies and procedures during the execution of projects for clients.
  • Assists and manages development of project design/documentation using drafting tools, equipment, and software.
  • Assists and performs activities inside and outside the organization consistent with ethical standards described in the company handbook.
  • Actively attends in-house training sessions to obtain knowledge in necessary technical areas
  • Under supervision, performs and documents engineering calculations and system design functions.

AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. degree in Architecture.
  • 3 to 5 years experience with another architecture or engineering firm. Experience with mixed use and/or multi-family projects a plus. 
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Revit, Microsoft Office Suite, and the Adobe Design Suite.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn the basics of design and analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Knowledge of building codes, standards, structures, systems, construction materials, and specifications.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage team assignments.
