This is a hands-on mid-level professional position, reporting to the Managing Director, New Business and Product Development, responsible for managing the operations of AIA’s Architecture Registration Exam (ARE®) prep program – ArchiPrep launched in 2019.  The Sr. Manager  is responsible for ensuring the development of the business strategy and implementing solutions that stay aligned with the product roadmap and business goals that will result in annual revenue growth and improved ROI on a year over year basis. It will require interaction with existing and potential external business partners, customers, architecture related subject matter experts, the AIA senior leadership team, and AIA components (chapters) in the US and internationally. 

The Sr. Manager is responsible for working with AIA’s technology platform provider for program planning & pricing; advise on recommendations to customers and prospects; collaborate with the marketing team on the strategy and execution of various campaigns; lead content updates and improvements for the program’s website; analyze customer satisfaction metrics; and generate key contributions to the financial progress of the initiative for continued growth and success.   

Job Duties:

ArchiPrep, AIA’s ARE prep program (90%):

  • Collaborates regularly with other internal departments, including Workforce Development & Strategy, Component Relations, Center for Practice, and Brand & Creative.
  • With team leaders, this role manages prioritization of development and changes to ensure that there is a clear product vision and roadmap and that high-quality products are delivered on time.
  • Works with team to clarify requirements and prioritize the scope based on business value, technical feasibility and development estimates.
  • Responsible for managing the AIA ARE prep portfolio of products, specifically ArchiPrep, an online learning platform for emerging professionals on the path to architectural licensure.
  • Provide a multi-year roadmap improving and expanding exam prep product portfolio.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and work directly with AIA members, Component Executives,  firm leaders and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage AIA's business partnership with the software provider for the ArchiPrep platform and its content development consultant.
  • Provide support and management of planning, development, launch, enhancement, and maintenance of existing and new products and collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective business operations and customer service.
  • Serve as the main point of contact and manage inquiries on individual and group sales.
  • Serve as primary customer service point of contact for all escalated inquiries about individual sales and technical access to ArchiPrep.
  • Problem-solve inquiries by collaborating with the Product Success team and platform provider.
  • Apply knowledge of ArchiPrep content to all customer and SME interactions and while developing recommendations for product development.
  • Act as secondary subject matter expert for ArchiPrep content development.
  • Support the Managing and Senior Directors of Product Strategy in the preparation and implementation of plans, schedules, communications and other documentation for the launch of product line extensions.
  • Support projects to bolster the portfolio of the ArchiPrep platform including free resources for emerging professionals, and group users.
  • Review feedback and survey data, integrate competitive analyses, and coordinate with internal teams to update or enhance content.
  • Manage user acceptance testing to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to detailed requirements.
  • Conduct market research and assist in data analysis to continuously evaluate mature products in the portfolio and identify new product and content ideas.
  • Track customer service inquiries to identify pain-points in product usage.
  • Manage business processes at the touch points between various external vendors and internal business units.
  • Collaborate with product strategy, technology and marketing teams to ensure proper presentation of products, including promotional activities.
  • Create and administer surveys and focus groups to evaluate the potential of new business opportunities, approaches, and tactics.
  • Will assist with market research and analysis and perform administrative support as needed

New Business and Product Development (10%):

  • Generate key contributions for the drafting of business plans demonstrating required resources, projected revenues, return on investment rates, and timeline to implementation.
  • Continually assess the business operations and strategy of AIA’s ARE prep program and derive new strategies for the program’s operating and financial models, new revenue and expense management.
  • Contribute to the drafting of market assessments and competitor analyses.
  • Track, reconcile and analyze financial performance and data from initiatives and partnerships.
  • Manage customer satisfaction of various products, services, and partnerships by collecting and evaluating customer metrics and data.
  • Proactively collaborate with marketing team on strategy and execution of various campaigns; assist with creation of materials and mailing lists as needed.
  • Address inquiries and issues from business partners across multiple initiatives.
  • Manage project plans for department.

  • Work experience and knowledge of adult learning models, planning, programming and operations, preferred.
  • Product management experience with complex programs.
  • Excellent communications and writing skills.
  • Experience with database usage and CRM. Ability and enthusiasm to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and enhance relationships with external partners.
  • Customer service orientation and experience working with customers or clients.
  • Ability to understand emerging trends in the adult education and test prep marketplace as well as the design and construction marketplace preferred.
  • Experience analyzing markets and conducting competitive analyses.
  • Experience developing business plans and conducting financial analyses.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop and monitor project schedules, identify and meet critical milestones, troubleshoot issues and mitigate risks.
  • Demonstrated advance skills in Microsoft software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Must have experience in creating spreadsheets and presentations
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software; including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator is a benefit.

The ideal candidate will an interest in creating innovative educational resources for emerging architects. Knowledge and/or personal experience with architectural licensure processes, policies, and regulations in the United States, especially Architectural Experience Program (AXP, formerly IDP) and the Architect Registration Examination strongly preferred. 

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, architecture or marketing from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in related activities (product and project management, analytics, technical systems and documentation) preferred . Travel (local and out-of-town, 15%) for related meetings and marketing opportunities, including evenings and weekends, is required.
