Design Technologist

Radius Track is seeking a Design Technologist to join our Los Angeles office. Radius Track is an industry expert in the virtual design, construction, and fabrication of curved and complex framing solutions for buildings throughout North America.  We take great pride in being a small company within a specialized niche that is changing the AEC industry. We make challenging design ideas practical through a proven process that is guided by technologically advanced integrated design, fabrication, and structurally engineered solutions.

Constructability is at the heart of what we do as a company. The resolution of complex detailing through the collective expertise of our team, advanced 3D modeling, automation, and fabrication techniques drives our design process. The design technologist will focus on four primary areas of responsibility: ideation and feasibility of framing system for custom applications, develop a constructible 3D model using advanced 3D modeling and automation processes, facilitate the design to fabrication process within RTC fabrication, and coordinate installation with the installing contractor.

The Design Technologist will be a member of the Radius Track design team, a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team that requires its members to work well within a team environment. In addition to having excellent oral, written and visual communication skills, Design team members must be able to effectively articulate questions, discuss their ideas within the team, and be active participants in brainstorming sessions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated constructability knowledge as well as the capacity to design and execute complex framing solutions collaboratively.

  • A degree in Architecture or design-related field
  • Expertise in Rhino and visual scripting software Grasshopper
  • Prepare 3D models, shop drawings, and diagrams for use in the submittal process and the design to fabrication and installation process.
  • Consulting with customers to clarify project specifications and provide constructability ideas.
  • Experience working on complex, large scale projects
  • Self-motivated, pro-active and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
