Junior-Intermediate Designer


Formation Association practices architecture as an expansive cultural enterprise emerging from investigation and reflection to transform our expectations of the built environment.   

From a purview of broad-ranging interests, the practice excavates history, engages the contemporary moment, and collaborates with clients, communities, and interdisciplinary partners to promote a variegated design approach.  Endeavoring to discover multivalent outcomes for projects of every scale, Formation Association pursues the studied synthesis of the social and the material and their ongoing interplay across architecture, urbanism, and broader ecologies.

Formation Association’s projects have been published by Phaidon to Architect Magazine, and featured in online design journals such as Dezeen, Designboom, Fast Company, and Divisare. The firm’s collaborations with artists have been presented in museums and cultural institutions both locally and internationally, from the Hammer Museum and the Orange County Museum of Art, to the MIT LIst Visual Art Center and the Mona Bismarck American Center in Paris.


Formation Association is currently working on higher education projects and interviewing for an Intermediate-Senior Architectural Designer in Los Angeles with 2-5 years of experience.  Our ideal candidate will be a thoroughly creative and self-motivated individual who will participate in the design and execution of multiple projects of varying scales and in a range of phases, from conceptualization to construction administration.


  • Professional Architecture Degree Completed, BA/MA.

  • Required command of Cad, BIM, Rhino, V-Ray, Grasshopper, Adobe Creative Suites

  • Demonstrates ability to integrate into and lead  teams through all project phases.

  • Experience in large-scale institutional, educational or cultural projects a plus.

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the USA.


  • Provide design assistance on larger projects and leadership on smaller projects, expanding the creative range of Formation Association.

  • Self-organize, navigate ambiguity, and improvise in a demanding work environment.

  • Self-manage smaller projects.

  • Able to produce meaningful conversation and analysis across various arenas from contemporary art to tabular spreadsheet info.
