NuVu Studio is seeking a candidate with interests in design, technology and education to join our team as a NuVuX Traveling Design Coach to support students and instructors at our partner schools around the world.

The NuVuX Traveling Design Coach will be an instructor based at NuVu Studio in Cambridge, MA who will assist in the development and support of studios and student projects across the NuVuX Network.  This Coach will be responsible for supporting studio courses at NuVu’s partner schools located around the U.S. and Europe, where they will help students with brainstorming, designing, and developing their ideas.  Working alongside other Coaches and experts from various fields in a dynamic and creative setting, this person will be a key resource for students in the design and execution of projects over the course of the school year. An ideal candidate is passionate about education and excited about expanding their own knowledge and creativity.

As a NuVuX Design Coach, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting NuVuX Fellows at NuVu’s partner schools in the implementation of studios on a wide range of topics, both virtually and in person

  • Regular and frequent travel to NuVuX partner schools located around the U.S. and Europe for onsite support of student projects

  • Teaching fundamental technical and design skills

  • Giving critical feedback to students about their ideas and prototypes

  • Guiding students in taking projects from concept to reality

  • Supporting the student's documentation of ideas, research and prototypes throughout the design process

Required qualifications:

  • A passion for working with middle and high school students

  • Design, programming, electronics, and fabrication expertise

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in a design or design/tech field such as architecture, computational design, or industrial design, or equivalent experience

  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with a diverse group of people

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of the design & making process: brainstorming, ideating, and prototyping

  • Ability to think both conceptually and concretely about projects

  • Teaching experience

  • Strong writing and graphic communication abilities

  • Proficiency with wood shop tools, digital fabrication, 3D printers and CNC machining

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and 3D modeling software (Rhino and Fusion preferred)

  • Proficiency with Arduino and designing with electronics
