Tenure Track Position in Architecture - I

Position Id: F00115P

The College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty member in Architecture, one of three positions to be filled for Fall of 2019.

For this position, we seek applicants with a focus in community design, public-interest design, housing, design-build, urban design, ecological environments, or similar field of specialty to join a growing group of faculty committed to exploring the intersections between architecture education, professional practice, and positive social action. The ability to work in the context of Dallas-Fort Worth’s rapid growth, demographic change, and its mix of historic and recently-constructed suburban landscapes is essential. Candidates will be expected to teach design studios as well as electives in their area of expertise.

The School of Architecture recently marked its 50th year of leading in the field of architectural education. We now seek new faculty to help chart a course for the future. The school is part of the multidisciplinary College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs at the heart of Dallas-Fort Worth, a metropolitan region rich in possibilities for research, creative practice, and cultural exploration. The college includes professional degree programs in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, planning, and public administration, as well as PhD programs in planning and urban and public affairs that provide opportunities for collaboration amongst students and faculty. The School has particular strengths in design-build, digital fabrication, and community engagement and it has strong ties to the large professional design community in both Dallas and Fort Worth. For more information please visit www.uta.edu/cappa

The School of Architecture is also central to realizing the goals of the university's 2020 Strategic Plan, particularly in its emphasis on Sustainable Urban Communities (details of the plan can be read at http://www.uta.edu/strategicplan/). Faculty with research interests that relate to this theme are particularly encouraged to apply. The School is also committed to diversifying its faculty to better represent the student body, which is among the most diverse in the country; UT Arlington is certified as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education.

Required qualifications: professional degree in Architecture (M.Arch. or a B.Arch + graduate degree in architecture or allied field); record of peer-reviewed research/creative practice commensurate with appointment at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor.

Preferred qualifications: licensure/professional registration is strongly preferred; experience mentoring women and minority faculty and students; record of peer-reviewed research/creative practice focused in an area related to Sustainable Urban Communities as defined in the university's 2020 Strategic Plan, field of specialty as noted above; ability to teach elective courses in history/theory.

To apply, applicants should go to https://uta.peopleadmin.com/ and submit the following: a 1) current  curriculum vitae, 2) a cover letter with a clear statement of goals for research and/or creative practice, and 3) a portfolio documenting teaching, peer-reviewed research and/or creative practice.

Please direct questions to Theresa Ross, Business Operations Manager for CAPPA at tross@uta.edu

Review of applications will begin December 17 and continue until positions are filled.

UTA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action institution. Minorities, women, veterans and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
