The SOM West Coast Marketing Manager will be responsible for overseeing the marketing department work flow in collaboration with the Partners, Directors, Project Managers and Studio Leaders.  The marketing department’s principal function is to bring in new work for the firm through the preparation of qualifications, proposals, competition materials and presentations, working with SOM’s designers, planners and engineers to identify, track and respond to project leads. 


  • Lead the West Coast marketing team, including mentorship, guidance and supporting and reviewing their daily efforts to ensure all work is accomplished on time and with the highest quality standards.
  • With SOM market leaders, write and implement long and short-term marketing and business development strategies.
  • Conduct Business Development activities in collaboration with internal SOM market leaders, building relations with potential clients, consultants and contractors to identify potential project opportunities.
  • Generate, strategize, coordinate, review and approve all proposals, interview materials or other similar documents with key leaders.
  • Collaborate with Communications Manager and team on day-to-day activities and develop strategies and new initiatives for the West Coast practice.
  • Lead research to assist in qualifying leads and evaluating potential clients.
  • Create and manage marketing deliverables related to various business practices.
  • Generate and present weekly marketing activity report.
  • Communicate and collaborate with firmwide and other SOM offices on marketing initiatives.
  • Manage yearly marketing budget and report spending monthly in collaboration with Partners and West Coast Office Practice Leaders.


  • A minimum of 10 years marketing experience, preferably in architectural, engineering, design or similar environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, or Design, with a graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience with Business development and relationship building.
  • Ability to lead a team, acting as a mentor and supervisor.
  • Experience creating and managing highly organized systems for a marketing department.
  • Ability to manage budgets and report on budget trends.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within strict deadlines.
  • Strong examples of delivering the highest quality collateral pieces.
  • Experience creating and managing highly organized systems for a marketing department.
  • Foresight to delegate specific tasks and projects to appropriate team members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Highly motivated, organized, exceptional attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, decisive and self-directed.
  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe C
