CRH Technology Studio is an interdisciplinary innovation team serving the global companies of CRH. A Fortune 500 company operating in 32 countries, CRH is the largest building materials company in North America and the third-largest worldwide.

We identify new and emerging technologies and apply them to challenging problems in the building industry. We strive to increase safety and sustainability, empower our customers and design professionals, and streamline our engineering and manufacturing processes. With backgrounds in architecture, engineering, fabrication, mathematics, construction, computer science, consulting, and education, we approach our projects holistically and bring a diversity of perspectives to our work.

As a researcher of digital building technologies, you will draw on your design background and your breadth of skill in digital technologies to support a wide range of innovation projects in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. Since your work will span from early research into new technologies to the delivery of production software tools, you are comfortable working with a wide range of subject matter and problem-solving techniques. While this is not full-time software development position, you have a strong aptitude for computer programming (whether visual or textual), which ensures that your work is never limited by the out-of-the-box capabilities of existing software tools. An architect by training, you are comfortable working in fast-paced, collaborative studio environment and interacting with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prototype design automation software using a variety of programming techniques
  • Design, plan, and execute research on a diverse range of topics, including
    • regulatory and market conditions for building information modeling (BIM) and virtual design and construction (VDC);
    • emerging technologies and their applications to problems in the building industry; and
    • market demand and user requirements for new software tools.
  • Provide technical support for internally developed software tools and workflows by writing documentation, developing sample content and test cases, and documenting and troubleshooting bugs and other issues.
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of all relevant software platforms and workflows including BIM/3D modelers, rendering engines, programming/scripting languages, and other modeling, visualization, and simulation tools.

  • Experience with computer programming in a graphical/geometric environment whether visual (e.g. Grasshopper) or textual (e.g. Processing, Revit API)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 or more years of professional experience in an architecture, engineering, or construction firm
  • Proficiency in Revit
  • Experience building design automation tools connected to a BIM, CAD, or other 3D modeling application

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with photo-realistic and/or physically-based rendering
  • Knowledge of JavaScript and/or C#
  • University-level coursework in any of the following areas
    • Programming paradigms, data structures, algorithms
