The Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), Columbia University, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the history and theory of architecture to begin 1 July 2019. We are especially seeking candidates with expertise in under-represented traditions, including the cultures and societies of the global South, and/or other areas of specialization, such as environmental history, that place European and North American traditions in a comparative or relational frame.

Essential responsibilities include teaching, research, and administration. A PhD in the History/Theory of Architecture (or equivalent) completed by the start date of the appointment is required. Candidates must demonstrate a strong record of scholarly achievement, including peer-reviewed publication, as well as a clear direction for future development. Appointments are open in rank and based on candidates’ experience. Founded in 1881, GSAPP currently offers advanced degrees in Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Historic Preservation, Real Estate Development, and Critical, Curatorial, and Conceptual Practices and has over 700 degree students representing more than 50 countries.
