The Design School at Arizona State University seeks a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor for the Architecture program beginning fall 2019.

The Architecture Program features a strong and diverse faculty, collaborative relationships with landscape architecture, urban design, and all other programs in the School. Ranked #4 in the nation for sustainability by DesignIntelligence in 2016, the program offers a Masters of Architecture (MArch), which is accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board, a four-year pre-professional Bachelor of Science in Design (BSD) in Architectural Studies, and a Minor in Architectural Studies. In addition, the School also supports two graduate research degree programs conferring respectively a Master of Science in Architecture (MSArch) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Design, Environment and the Arts (PhD), as well as concurrent Master’s degree options with each of the other programs in The Design School. MArch students also pursue concurrent master’s degree options, partnered with ASU’s School of Sustainability, W.P. Carey School of Business, and the Biomimicry Center.

The successful candidate is expected to teach studio and lecture courses in the BSD and MArch degree programs, lead seminars based on research interests, mentor graduate student thesis projects and contribute to other programs in and beyond The Design School. The candidate should possess expertise in a specific area in architectural design and demonstrate the potential to develop and sustain a research agenda in that area capable of achieving national recognition. The candidate will also be expected to advise student organizations and participate in service to the Program, School, Institute and University. Required Qualifications:

  • An accredited graduate professional degree in architecture or international equivalent, with professional experience in architecture, design sustainability, or urban design; and 
  • Demonstrated potential to teach architecture design studios and courses related to the applicant’s area of research and/or creative activities with an interest in interdisciplinary practices.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Professional registration/licensure in architecture.
  • Advanced degrees in sustainability, urban design, or a PhD in architecture or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and teaching interdisciplinary design curriculum.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop and sustain a research agenda capable of achieving national or international recognition.
  • Commitment to exploring the current and future role of architecture in environmentally and socially responsible design practices.
  • An interest in online teaching and learning; and
  • Commitment to research with teaching, and recruiting a diverse student population.
