Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to manage assigned architectural projects through preliminary design, construction document production, bidding and construction to ensure that the client’s goals are satisfied on time and within budget. Serves as primary contact for owner and assignments on project to ensure clear and concise information flow.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Evaluate client desires/needs in order to develop design that meets client’s goals.
  • Utilize client’s project program narratives to comprehend scope of project.
  • Generate and oversee construction documents and specifications for project.
  • Draft information in a format to convey information to the client/subordinates (periodic progress reports).
  • Communicate daily with project team members/consultants to ensure goals are met.
  • Keep clients and team members informed by routinely sending copies of correspondence and project documentation.
  • Meet with contractors to convey building design intentions, resolve problems and answer questions.
  • Coordinate with consultants regarding design and interaction of systems.
  • Effectively communicate with clients concerning budgeting, scheduling, and project modifications.
  • Facilitate project team meetings to share pertinent project information, make critical decisions plan, solve problems, resolve conflicts, and recognize/celebrate team’s achievements.
  • Understand, research and apply federal, state and local building codes, planning and zoning regulations, and standard design practices to project; assess code requirements to ensure project meets health and safety requirements.
  • Develop schedule(s) for project throughout the document stage, as well as internal budget(s) for production of project(s) to ensure meeting project(s) deadlines and profit.
  • Review financial data to complete client billing, and answer client’s questions.
  • Review/approve consultant and project invoicing.
  • Manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines, ensuring value to clients by balancing scope, time, cost, and quality with PROJX’s needs and priorities.
  • Produce conceptual project construction cost estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposal and contracts, and work effectively with the Team Leader to deliver an overall solution to the client.
  • Serve as primary client contact on a project basis, overseeing design efforts, and working to build strong client relationships through quality work, ensuring solutions fully meet client’s needs.
  • Research and document new products and cutting-edge technologies, as well as present value-added recommendations to clients and internal staff with the understanding of cost and quality.
  • Stay abreast of current trends for healthcare facilities, encompassing design and implementation of technologies for increased productivity and efficiency of high-output methods for these facilities.
  • Keep files and project documentation in order per office standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Combine architectural and management skills to manage multi-tasked team (consultants and in-house staff) from design and graphic illustration to construction, on time and within budget.
  • Direct and motivate project team of consultants and in-house staff, to maintain deadlines, work efficiently, and deliver a quality service.
  • Provide work direction, training, coaching, mentoring, and technical leadership to assigned team (i.e. Project Coordinator(s) and drafters), in order to facilitate project member’s growth.
  • Review and approve work of assigned Project Coordinator(s).
  • Make recommendations and implement a standard of project assembly (CD) to improve quality with accuracy and efficiency.

Job Dimensions:

  • Develop and monitor internal budget(s) for assigned project(s).
  • Produce projects within specified owner’s construction budgets.
  • Produce projects within ProjX profit goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 4-year college degree in architecture or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Master’s degree a plus.
  • 3-10 years of related experience. Prior supervisory experience helpful.
  • Architectural license is REQUIRED.
  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in AutoCAD or similar software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must understand the requirements and function of the project type.
  • Must be knowledgeable of national/state codes and local regulations related to health and safety requirements.
  • Must possess an understanding of building design and the way buildings are put together, including engineered systems, as well as medical facility operations and procedures.
  • Must be results oriented, able to manage projects with a high degree of technical complexity from start to finish and know where to find answers for all technical problems.
  • Must be able to program and provide schematic design solutions for a full range of project types.
  • Must be able to listen and communicate effectively.
  • Must be a team player and able to establish good working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, team members, and other ProjX employees.
  • Must be able to present self in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Must be able to perform arithmetic operations, read, and write.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be detail oriented, able to problem-solve, and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Must be able to perform work related travel.
  • Must be able to analyze, compare, copy, compile, coordinate and synthesize data.
  • Must display knowledge and ability to perform effectively throughout all phases of the assigned projects.

Working Conditions:

  • Works primarily in an office environment.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, constant or intermittent noise, fumes or other airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations.
  • Occasionally works in high, precarious places, and exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock, fire, and radiation.
  • Frequent work-related travel.
