Involves managing the design and construction of capital projects, including renovations, expansions and new facilities and infrastructure as well as landscape projects; collect, develop, and analyze technical data to determine project requirements and preparation of information regarding specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs, and completion times.

Physical Planning, Development & Operations - Engineering Services (PPDO-ES) is seeking an Engineering Project Manager with experience in coordinating all phases of building and infrastructure projects and facilities modifications. Responsibilities range from establishment of design concepts through design implementation, construction and commissioning. Successful candidates must coordinate specialized and critical components of projects, act independently and receive guidance from stakeholders at key phases of the project. Must also demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Physical Planning, Development & Operations - Engineering Services (PPDO-ES) supports the UC Santa Cruz academic and research vision by providing engineering services, management and over-site for physical planning, design, and construction of multiple projects. PPDO-ES ensures that projects contribute to and support campus life by creating visually pleasing, functional, and sustainable facilities that are sensitive and responsive to the surrounding natural landscape. We collaborate with other campus departments to facilitate and realize their programmatic and operational needs when building or altering systems and facilities.

Qualifications include:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering and / or equivalent experience / training.

Minimum 6 years progressively responsible experience in engineering construction project management

Thorough working knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes, including full understanding of industry practices.

Ability to administer a construction contract through all phases of construction including: contract document assembly, budget estimating, obtaining approvals, bidding, addendums, contract award, submittals, scheduling, progress meetings, contact enforcement, change order negotiations, commissioning, punch list, contract closeout, budget reconciliation, and enforcing the warranty period.

Demonstrated technical familiarity with at least five MEP systems; (HVAC, BMS, plumbing, process piping, fire protection, lab equipment, power, telecom, life safety, elevators, and campus underground utilities including: water, sewer, gas, storm, district heating, district cooling, medium voltage power, and telecom).

Some special conditions include:

Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.

Ability to climb to a height in excess of thirty feet; ability to work in manholes, mechanical/electrical rooms, attics, basements, and other noisy, confined, or disadvantaged areas.

Ability to work occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
