Become a vital member of Brook McIlroy’s studio design culture. Become a design and technical leader. Manage aspects of the practice and report directly to Principal level. This position is for placement in our growing Thunder Bay office for projects primarily spanning north-western Ontario and Manitoba in association with our Winnipeg and Toronto studios. We are a multi-disciplinary practice comprised of Architects, Landscape Architects, Urban Designers, Planners and Public Art Specialists. Our current projects in dynamic and beautiful Thunder Bay include the new Thunder Bay Art Gallery, the Waterfront Delta Hotel and a variety of elementary and secondary schools. Brook McIlroy’s growing practice has strong experience in the design of college and university buildings, as well as sustainable, institutional, and waterfront buildings. Brook McIlroy is PAR certified (Progressive Aboriginal Relations) by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and our Cultural Place Making Studio works with Indigenous communities and clients focused on economic development and the restoration of Indigenous presence in Canadian communities. 

This position provides an opportunity:

  • To collaborate with teams of various sizes and disciplines to achieve design excellence across the studio
  • To lead and manage project-based teams
  • To liaise with clients to provide excellent service and high-quality deliverables
  • To participate in business development through preparation of proposals and related activities
  • To enrich a welcoming and dynamic office environment

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Produce design documents for various projects: schematic level, design development level, and contract documentation level
  • Advance the use of REVIT and other advanced IT drawing platforms within the studio
  • Manage teams for best quality document production
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants
  • Coordinate specifications
  • Perform contract administration duties

Qualifications and skills required:

  • 3 -5 years of professional experience (minimum)
  • Licensed or Intern Architect
  • Experience in project management, design, contract documents, contract administration
  • Experience leading production teams 
  • Advanced digital design skills, especially with REVIT
  • Proven effective communication skills
  • Highly motivated
