INTERESTED IN REALLY TACKLING HOMELESSNESS?

We are, and we’ve got the opportunity to do so, through our architectural practice. When not designing housing for those experiencing homelessness, recovering from multiple substance abuses, very low income families and seniors, youth aged out of the foster care system, in supportive, dignified multi‐unit new construction, we’re often engaged with passionate communities in the creation of sacred spaces.

It’s an unusual balance of building types that keeps us both grounded and able to contemplate qualities of transcendence.

Join us in these efforts if you have:

  • a strong portfolio of well‐conceived academic/professional design work
  • an architectural degree from an accredited school
  • 4-6 years of prior professional experience
  • the ability to speak and write English fluently
  • well‐honed Revit, CAD and Sketch‐up skills
  • a collaborative nature as well as a sense of humor
  • the desire to undertake mission‐driven work
  • a commitment to an energy efficient, sustainable future
  • an interest in working collaboratively with experienced Project Managers & Principals
  • the desire to work directly with consultants, contractors and clients

If we work together, you’d be utilizing your skills on at least 2 of the following:

Mission Street Homeless Housing and Clinic: New, modular housing development of 265 apts for chronically homeless adults and seniors with full, wrap‐around social services on site. 5 stories of Type V factory‐ produced units over a Type 1 Podium housing a 20,000 SF homeless clinic and offices for the San Francisco Homeless Outreach Team (SF HOT). Currently in Schematics

Congregation Rodef Sholom: A new, from the ground up, synagogue facility in San Rafael. The program includes 2 sacred spaces (a main sanctuary and a chapel), a large indoor social gathering space, a large outdoor gathering space and outdoor chapel, a lobby/living room, commercial kitchen and staff offices. Currently in Schematic Design

Irvington Affordable Senior Housing: 90 apts for low‐income and formerly homeless seniors in the transitional neighborhood of Irvington in Fremont, CA. 3, 4 & 5 story wings ranging in height from 38’‐60’. On grade parking for 45 cars and 66 bicycles. Pedestrian‐friendly retail at grade and extensive hard and softscape communal outdoor spaces throughout. Currently nearing the completion of Schematic Design

Buddhist Universal Church: 12,000SF, 4 story addition to existing mid‐century modern Buddhist church and community center in the heart of Chinatown. New wing to include community‐serving retail at grade, event and gathering space, youth‐focused classrooms and congregant senior housing. Currently in Design Development

We’re a firm of 14 professionals with an office in SOMA near all sorts of public transit including BART and Caltrain. We work hard and both enjoy and respect one another a lot. We strongly believe in the value of a sane work‐life balance. Once people join our practice they tend to stay for a long time.

Let us know of your interest, your prior experience, the nature of the work you’ve done, your availability and whether you already have a place to live in the absurdly expensive Bay Area.

Kindly send cover letter, resume and portfolio samples of both student and professional work to: info@hclarchitecture.com
