The Senior Designer’s role is to collaborate in providing high-level design concept, documentation, management and execution for custom interior projects.

The Senior Designer will realize the office’s design direction in cooperation with the Principal, assist in facilitating all or specific projects at the office following the character and strategy of the company’s brand and will be responsible to mentor, encourage and motivate other members of the team to complete projects in the manner and style of the office.


  • Design, concept, specify, draft and integrate all elements of interior design and architecture including, but not limited to, furniture plans, architectural details, floors, casework, millwork, furnishings, fixtures and other construction documents as needed for projects.
  • Assist Principal in assignment of projects and project tasks appropriate to team member skills and experience within the office.
  • Determine and review potential new projects with Principal, analyze costs/fees, budget and contract terms for project scope as needed. Assist in preparing documentation or collateral for bids or proposals.
  • Assist and direct in creating presentation boards/digital presentation media, client presentations/proposals.
  • Project management. Manage design projects, as assigned, independently or in collaboration with Principal as needed.
  • Site work, travel to project sites. Attend construction and client meetings off-site as necessary.
  • Project meeting coordination, meeting agenda development, communication.
  • Generate, review and distribute accurate meeting notes or documentation from project as necessary.
  • Research/source design components.  Develop conceptual designs, create mock-ups, models, renderings or sketches and layouts as needed to facilitate presentations, sales, pricing or fabrication.
  • Generate accurate budget proposals for projects, update regularly, review with clients when necessary.
  • Schedule installations, manage calendars and project milestones.
  • Responsibly build effective relationships with vendors.
  • Track project budgets to assure alignment with client expectations and to verify available purchasing funds.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, deliveries and installations as needed - directly or with office team to complete projects on-time and efficiently.
  • Communicate with clients in a professional, manner, via phone, email, site and office meetings, skype, messaging, etc.
  • Mentor, guide and direct design team. Assist in evaluating and recruiting team members.
  • Professionally represent the office publicly, at fairs, seminars or shopping for projects.
  • Be motivated, resourceful and take initiative.

Essential Skills…

  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in an upper level design position with a contemporary, residential design firm. Experience with commercial/hospitality design.
  • Industry recognized education/background in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture.
  • Ability to design and manage projects autonomously.
  • Comprehensive and professional level of understanding with Interior Architecture and Design drawings, specifications, Architectural plans and schedules.
  • Experienced and skilled at space planning, furniture layout, elevation development, and room programming.
  • Be knowledgeable in sourcing contemporary, custom, vintage and antique furnishings both locally and internationally.
  • Experience and familiarity with custom fabrication.
  • Knowledge of architectural styles.
  • Familiarity with current, historical, and noteworthy interior design/designers.
  • Specialized understanding of the methods/process/manufacturing for: upholstery, millwork, custom furnishings, lighting fabrication, decorative finishes, drapery/soft goods, sewing, weaving and fabrics, carpet qualities and install methods, antique and vintage repair, woodworking, metal fabrication, stone, tile, paint, wallcovering, flooring, bath fittings, hardware.
  • Familiarity with the decorative arts, accessories, tableware, flatware, collecting, craft and the visual arts.
  • Proficiency Microsoft Suite & Adobe Suite
  • 3-5 year design experience and proficiency with AutoCAD/Vectorworks, Sketch-up.
  • Proficiency with Pinterest, social media formats, video conferencing.
  • Proficiency in Interior Design Studio Designer software or similar.
  • Typing speed 60 wpm w/accuracy
  • Valid California driver’s license, access to automobile.
  • Accurate and precise filing skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Basic graphic design and layout capabilities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work productively and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to change and shifting priorities.
  • High-level of attention to detail and follow-up.
