The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning is accepting applications for the position of Department Manager of the college's newly renovated and revamped DAAP Build Lab. In this role you will be responsible for management of all aspects of the college workshop, including safety, training, communications, equipment, policies, facility use, and employees. Position is under general supervision from Director, DAAP Learning Labs.

The DAAP Build Lab is a workspace where student designers and artists have access to a broad palette of tools, enabling them to produce physical realizations of their ideas. Equipment and appropriate environments are provided for the working of wood products, metals, plastics and composite materials. It is a welcoming place in which to explore and learn about materials and processes, to share a work environment with students of different disciplines, and to discover new techniques with the help of staff members and student-peers.

The facility was expanded and completely remodeled in 2017, resulting in 12,000 square feet of dedicated work-space with newly engineered systems to provide: constant air quality, ambient LED lighting, fire safety, proper electrical power, generous work-spaces, and specialized mechanical systems for dust collection and fume extraction.

Students are trained in basic techniques and safety practices in order to be certified for general Build Lab access, and additional training is offered in specialty areas that necessarily have higher requirements. The Build Lab is open from 50 to 72 hours per week, depending on the demands of the academic semester.
