Internship Program Description: The objective of the Internship Program is to offer practical museum training experience to individuals interested in pursuing careers in the arts and museum fields. Interns gain a general knowledge and broad understanding of how a particular department functions within the context of a major museum, as well as specific skills related to a particular department’s activities. Interns are assigned to a department based on their academic backgrounds, professional skills, interests, and career goals. Interns participate in the ongoing work of the department and complete specific projects or portions of larger departmental initiatives. The Museum Culture Seminar Program forms an integral part of our Internship Program. The program includes field trips to sites such as auction houses, galleries, corporate collections, and other museums. Discussion with Guggenheim Museum staff from a range of departments and awareness of a range of museum-related issues is facilitated. A field trip outside of New York City is planned for the end of every session.

Exhibition Design Department Description: The Exhibition Design department is responsible for executing the design and implementation of exhibitions within the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright building in New York, and is heavily involved in design planning for exhibitions traveling between other Guggenheim locations as well as outside institutions domestically and abroad. The department is a repository for architectural information: museum drawings, models, and a library of artwork maquettes from the collection. The exhibition design team works closely with curators, conservators, fabricators, and others to determine the layout of exhibitions and design aspects necessary for display and protection of the artwork. Interns in this department usually come from an architectural background and must be fluent in 3D-imaging software such as CAD, Rhino, or Vectorworks. Please note: when applying, candidates should submit a design portfolio or small visual sample of work.
