About Us:

CWB Architects is an architecture and interior design firm located in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Our collaborative team of 25 designs row houses, apartments, country houses, office and retail spaces and small-scale institutional spaces. We rely on our substantial practical experience and utilitarian sensibilities when developing elegant and buildable design solutions. We consider a consistent open dialog with the client an important and ongoing part of the process. We value the business side of architecture as much as we value design excellence. And we value the development of what we consider the four key skills in an architect – design, management, communication and technical skills.

CWB Architects seeks a Studio Director to manage studio operations, including overseeing work flow, quality control, staffing, and scheduling. The Studio Director holds the responsibility for establishing and managing the programs by which the projects within the firm run better. • Identify and proactively address opportunities to improve project performance and delivery
  • Monitor utilization performance of all projects and staff
  • Oversee project archiving process

Team workload management:

  • Manage weekly staffing projections and oversee workload distribution; assist project teams in coordinating staff and resources so they are properly equipped for the work at hand
  • Project future workloads to identify staffing crunches and work to address them ahead of time
  • Communicate hiring needs to firm management

Staff development:

  • Grow and mentor technical staff
  • Oversee employee review process for technical staff
  • Assist in recruiting and onboarding of new employees
  • Coordinate the NCARB AXP for the office

Prospective project pursuit:

  • Represent CWB in meetings with prospective clients
  • Prepare/manage prospective client proposals and contract negotiations
  • Assist Marketing team in responding to RFPs (preparing fee proposals or text, etc.)

Strategic growth management:

  • Engage in shaping firm strategic goals and initiatives with Principals, Marketing team, and Operations team
  • Develop project planning and management systems (i.e. best practices) that align with firm strategic goals
  • Represent and communicate the needs of the studio in discussions with management team (such as new equipment or software needs, etc.)
  • Prepare documentation of past project performance to inform planning of new projects

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the architecture and design field
  • Licensed architect
  • Experience in guiding the operations of a 20+ person studio, both in the mentorship and development of staff as well as project schedule and budget oversight
