The position offers an opportunity to join a leading group of professionals in growing an important part of KPF’s portfolio in the planning, development and building of the world’s most unique transportation complexes. The candidate will:


  • Ensure that KPF’s services to the client and project team, as well as the fulfillment of all project deliverables, are met in accordance with KPF’s professional standards.

  • Lead the project communication and coordination with the client, local architect, and international engineering team as part of KPF’s role as the Design Architect.

  • Collaborate closely with and report regularly to KPF Principals regarding project work and progress.

  • Collaborate with KPF’s Senior Designers and Technical Coordinators as part of the project team leadership.

  • Regularly communicate and coordinate with KPF’s project teams in our New York, London, and Asian offices.

  • Direct staff work assignments and monitor project team performance.

  • Be responsible for managing project budget, work plans, consultants and schedule.

  • Communicate key deliverable dates and materials to project team. Tracking fees and labor costs for conformance to contract.

  • Prepare and execute subcontracts for consultants and be responsible for monitoring consultant scope with the Owner.

  • Participate in selected marketing and business development opportunities.

  • Prepare fee proposals including work plans identifying scope. Negotiate contracts for new work based on this work plan in conjunction with Principal in Charge.

  • Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team (i.e. Project Designer, and Principal in Charge).

  • Foster on-going communication through team meetings, generation of meeting minutes, and up-date memos to project team including consultants.

  • Ensure project documentation and contracts comply with the standards set forth by KPF policy.

  • Provide office leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.

  • Define staff requirements for projects as needed or directed. May make recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations. May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.

  • Contribute to architectural design development and drawings in support of overall project goals when requested and directed by the Principal in Charge.


The candidate must have:


  • Exceptional communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited program or equivalent in education or experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in architectural practice with prior management experience in all phases of large, complex airport projects.

  • Project Management experience with transportation or other large architectural infrastructure projects.

  • Understanding of architectural modeling, parametric design, advanced project delivery methods and drawing software and production. Experience in managing projects executed using BIM technologies i.e. revit, rhino, grasshopper, etc.

  • Architect’s Registration with current license is required.

  • NCARB registration preferred.

  • LEED Accreditation not required, but a plus.

  • Strong relationship-building and problem solving skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Strong knowledge of design, construction methodologies and material application.

  • Knowledge of architectural building systems.

  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets with an interest in financial management a must.

  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.

  • Ability to manage multiple small to large scale projects of complex scope.
