We are hiring a principal architect in The San Francisco Bay Area.

This role is a leadership position in the company. This is an opportunity to create architecture that changes not just homes, but the housing system at scale.

New Avenue is a technology backed, architect-led, design/build firm.  Current projects range from $100,000 to $3,000,000+ for single family homes.  We are a leader in the movement towards reinventing existing homes to be more inclusive, flexible and modern. We are commitment to sustainable, social and affordable housing.  We are early movers and market makers in the adoption of accessory dwellings and remain committed to expanding this market while we design and build a broad range of project types.

This principal role is the lead design mind for our brand. You will design additions, remodels, accessory dwellings and custom homes.  We have a steady flow of new work and need you to lead the design from proposal through completed build.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Design, permitting and CA for custom residential projects.
  • Managing all interactions with clients.
  • Providing proposals based on previous data, discussing design contracts and the design/build process.
  • Interviewing, hiring and managing a team of junior designers.
  • Participating in the recruiting process of other Principal Architects in other cities.
  • Meeting with general contractors, overseeing bidding and CA.
  • Reviewing 10-15 new projects per month and accepting the ones that you feel you are the best fit for.

Compensation is market rate for a startup in San Francisco with stock, salary, and benefits.

Requirements are:

  • Completed high-end residential projects
  • Proven success with past residential clients
  • 8+ years experience.
  • Desire to work autonomously with little or no oversight on your own work.
  • Work directly with owners who are trusting you with their life savings, hopes, and dreams.
  • Technical skills (your choice what you use but you must be proficient and have completed CDs that demonstrate this).

This is a full-time position. There is the opportunity to start part-time or on a contract basis.

To apply, email an example of something interesting you've designed and built to and tell us why that project is important.
