Director, Business Development & Communications

The role of the Director is to actively manage, strategize, cultivate relationships and create business opportunities for the firm. The Director is responsible for strategically defining a path forward for the firm to reach growth targets set by Partners and to support the Partners in presenting a front face for the firm. The Director is also responsible for effective internal and external communications on behalf of the firm, including press relations.

Key markets of interest for the firm include, North America, Canada and Europe specifically Germany and the East Coast of the US. The firm is interested in continuing to pursue select developer work while also developing a greater presence in the Cultural and Institutional markets.

The Director oversees and is directly responsible for the Manager/Assistant within the Business Development & Communications team.

Responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to;

Business Development:

The Director is responsible for maintaining procedures and processes to create a pipeline of potential projects for the firm.

  • Industry research & knowledge: The Director should maintain a good level of knowledge of the industry in general, as well as specific typologies of interest to the firm and potential clients of interest. They should keep abreast of industry news in all target cities and typologies of interest, including staying up to date on specific companies of interest

  • Submissions: Identify and manage the execution of relevant RFP, RFQ & Competitions submissions

  • Conferences: Attend and participate in relevant conferences, manage attendance and involvement of Partners

  • Contacts: Manage and maintain a complete contact database within CRM platform, including clients, leads, consultants and other industry network.

o Actively seek out new contacts and potential clients including consultants, and other Architects.

o Attend and run introductory meetings for the firm to potential clients & assist/accompany the Partners in new client presentations when required.

o Monitor and manage Partners and firm's relationships with existing contacts. Be alert for new opportunities for current contacts or opportunities to introduce contacts to each other or for company.

o Strategize most effective means of outreach for various contacts; physical mail outs, holiday gifts etc.

o Represents the firm at industry events

Communications & PR:

Strategize effective communications within the firm to assist in office operations and oversee the outward appearance of the firm.

  • Press: Oversee general exposure of the firm including content produced by internal and external PR team. Oversee the team in maintaining an active network of press contacts and keep in communication of upcoming project and firm news.

  • External PR consultant: Coordinate and oversee the relationship with external PR consultant

  • Communications: Oversee the team in creating good processes and procedures to ensure

    project information is shared across teams (milestone reporting and presenting) to assist in office


  • Thought Leadership & speaking engagements: Strategize thought leadership initiatives and

    manage content with Communications staff.

  • Collateral and Assets: Oversee the team in management and production of all Hollwich

    Kushner assets and project related assets. Including templates, photography, video content, award and presentation materials.


    Work with the Directors and leadership group to maintain effective processes and systems for the team to aid the operation and growth of the firm.

  • Administration: Oversee and manage administrative tasks associated with BD, relevant consultant contracts (photographer, lead generation, PR agency, graphic designer, web developer), budget and team organization. Work with Directors & Associates for staffing requirements and projections.

  • Leadership: As a Director within the firm, the Director is expected to contribute to the growth and development of the firm and its culture. To assist and mentor junior staff and be conscious of the professional goals of team members and provides them with support and guidance to help reach them and to work with senior members of staff to keep them informed of BD processes.
