Field Architecture (FIELD) is an award-winning firm based in Palo Alto, with interesting clients and exciting projects in California, and abroad. Job Captain/ Project Manager POSITION DESCRIPTION


Position Overview: FIELD is looking for a talented individual to contribute to inspired project design and development. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, self-reliant, able to manage full scale projects as well as mentor junior designers and is interested in growing with our firm. Responsibilities include:

  • Create and contribute to inspired project design and development
  • Support project team in Drawing Set production and coordination of Revit model
  • Assist in production of presentation materials
  • Communicate with project team members to ensure smooth work-flow and track project progress
  • Coordinate day-to-day relationship with clients
  • Coordinate and interface with consultants
  • Take part in interaction with various jurisdictions
  • Work with project team on successful project delivery
  • Maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants to provide a high level of service

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:                      

We realize that every interested candidate might not have all of the desired experience, but here is what we are looking for in terms of experience and skills… the more you have, the better!

  • Licensed or on licensure track in California
  • 3 to 5 years of architectural practice experience
  • B.Arch or M.Arch from an accredited school of Architecture
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of projects
  • Ability to develop details, and experienced in the production of construction documents
  • 3-5 years of direct experience with document production, consultant coordination, and management of junior staff
  • Demonstrated ability to control project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Working knowledge of the California Building Code
  • Modeling and documentation proficiency in Revit
  • LEED Accreditation preferred
  • Strong collaboration and organizational skills are a must
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
  • Hands on approach and flexibility are a must
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and independently
  • Ability to efficiently interface with project team and clients and contribute to a positive, energized working environment
  • Shows initiative, pro-activity, and pride in their work


Must have design experience

Attention to detail: ask questions, take notes, stay ahead of deadlines.

Strong, current Revit experience. The office uses Revit for all projects.

MS Office Suite. Excel. AutoCAD. Adobe: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.  (PC based office)

Ability to multi-task; you will likely have an average of three projects at once.

Positive, optimistic attitude to fit in with the team. We are deeply engaged in our work.

Flexible: you will be expected to offer and will be asked to help team members where needed.

Have an appreciation for mother earth, green building practices, sustainable structures, and related integrative design.

Interest in and experience with modern design is preferred.

Highly professional with discretion regarding confidential clients/projects.


Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or similar study. Master’s degree is a plus.

Architectural Licensure or licensure track


Compensation is commensurate with education, professional experience, and demonstrated skills.
