The Base Building Studio Director is a senior management position, reporting to the Executive Team, responsible for the economic performance, project development process and staff management in our Base Building Studio. This position plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, coordinating with The Creative Director (“CD”) and other Studio Directors, while closely managing multiple projects and team members to meet the client’s objectives, in a timely fashion.

Also serving as the Technical Director for the Base Building Studio, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction and bring a “best practice” approach to process and procedures with a focus on delivering high quality designs. You will develop and implement technical standards, guidelines and procedures.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Business Development -  proposing and directing strategies to expand client base and project profitability.
  • Project Management - Establishes the tenets, boundaries and specific requirements of each project, both conceptually and quantitatively in conjunction with the CD, ADA, and TD; ensures that all resources and relevant staff input have been gathered and all processes are properly addressed for each phase of project; ensuring sound design and the highest quality standards.
  • Budget Development and Administration - Prepares client proposals, LOAs, schedules, work plans, fee plans, and cost projections for all project phases.  Supervises all staffing needs and controls expenditures.  Monitors invoicing, project completion status and profitability, and client payments, while working closely with the Accounting Department.
  • Team Leader - Provides critical leadership and manages all Architecture and Interior Design personnel assigned to the Studio as well outside consulting teams, sub-consultants, and contractors.  The Studio Director will collaborate with the CD and Executive Team, ensuring that each project meets the firm’s standards of excellence.
  • Personal Development & Training -  Manages, mentors and trains staff to develop and perform to their optimum potential. Sets and evaluates performance milestones. Makes recommendations for compensation programs that reflect the skills and market value of each member of the team.
  • Technical Leadership -  Directs the development and implementation of design documentation and construction standards to ensure projects are executed at appropriate levels of quality. Responsible for developing and constantly improving QA/QC procedures and systems. Monitor coordination reviews for constructability with MEP and civil engineering drawings as conducted by project managers. Ensure code compliance among project teams. Meet with government agencies or officials as needed.


  • Professional degree required
  • 10+ years’ experience in base building architecture/design and managing projects;
  • Extensive experience with client management;
  • Proven management ability and excellent communication skills, both spoken and written;
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative achievement with in-house and external teams.
