Martinez+Johnson Architecture, PC a Washington, DC based architectural firm, specializing in the design of cultural and performing arts facilities, are looking for an experienced Project Architect to join our office in a full-time capacity. We are looking for an architect with strong leadership qualities.  The primary role will be to plan, organize, and manage the design and technical production of projects, coordinating all phases of planning, design, documentation, and construction administration.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise and manage the completion of all design phases on schedule and within budget.
  • Manage the activities of a design and production team on a daily basis.
  • Deliver high quality presentation, design drawings and construction documents that can be easily interpreted by government agencies and easily utilized by contractors.
  • Manage client relationships in a manner that leads to satisfaction, great design, and repeat business.
  • Coordinate effectively with technical consultants including but not limited to: structural engineers, MEP engineers, civil engineers, and landscape architects.

Job Requirements include:

  • Professional degree in architecture; professional registration.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience as an architect / designer in the architecture profession.
  • Extensive knowledge of architectural detailing, current construction standards, and building systems.
  • Understanding of architectural design and related fields.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit and other graphic and business software and their application in development of design through construction document packages.
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • The ability to successfully complete the permitting process.
  • Leadership role in construction administration.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage junior staff on assigned projects
  • Applicants who have worked at small to medium avant-garde design studios and on medium to large scale projects will receive favorable review. Preservation experience also valuable.
