Position Summary:

CRB is looking for an energetic, self-motivated and dynamic team-oriented individual who is experienced in designing Science and Technology (S+T) facilities in the corporate, institutional and/or academic markets. The successful candidate will have a desire to help CRB continue to grow their presence in the S+T marketplace and provide architectural leadership for the team. Furthermore, the successful candidate shall display a solid working knowledge of the Building Codes, program through construction document preparation, and be able to provide design leadership and overall project management. Project sizes will vary and will include both existing building improvements and new construction.  The position will be part of the San Diego office leadership team providing input into business planning and team operations.  A candidate who is successful in this position will have the opportunity for business unit leadership and company ownership in the future.


  • Architectural licensure in California required
  • 15+ years of experience required
  • 10+ years of experience of laboratory project planning and design required
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required
  • Entrepreneurial, client-focused leadership skills required
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead an architectural team
  • NCARB certification preferred
  • Master of Architecture or professional degree from an accredited college required
  • Depth of experience with wide variety of laboratory types including research, teaching, biocontainment, vivaria, wet labs, dry labs
  • LEED AP preferred


  • Provide architectural leadership in the fields of: Business & Client Development, Business Planning, Team Growth,
  • Ongoing business development activities in the S+T market
  • Proposal preparation for projects in the S+T market
  • Develop project resource plans and pricing for proposals within the architectural discipline
  • Present CRB qualifications to new and existing clients
  • Meet with clients to assess needs and develop an associated project program and conceptual designs
  • Lead coordination with the engineering team, other specialty consultants and the General Contractor
  • Lead the design team in the development construction drawings and specifications that incorporate client, regulatory and industry standards
  • Take responsibility for discipline-related internal and external project communication and coordination
  • Mentor junior architectural staff members and assist in professional development
  • Travel for client development and project execution as required
  • Perform field work a for project execution (e.g., take field dimensions, confirm existing laboratory equipment, make field visits during construction, etc.) as required
