The Design and Construction group, part of the Exhibition and Graphic Arts Department of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks an Assistant Project Manager for Construction (APM) to become an integral member of a highly collaborative team about to start work on a truly unique NYC project.  The APM will play an important supporting role in the comprehensive restoration of the New York Aquarium at Coney Island, Brooklyn, which was heavily damaged as a result of Hurricane Sandy in 2012.  The Restoration project also includes mitigation measures to build in resiliency to prevent significant damage in future flooding events.  The Restoration project is a significant multi-structure campus-wide effort that will afford the APM an outstanding learning opportunity with great potential for professional growth.
At the outset, the APM will be responsible for full time daily construction oversight on the Restoration project and serve as a facilitator of information between WCS ownership, the Construction Manager, Contractors and outside professional consultants.  The APM position might also be involved in other smaller projects at the Aquarium or at our other WCS parks in New York City.

Qualified APM candidates must have a competent working knowledge of construction, shop drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, change order requests and other construction administration documents.  The APM must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to react and adjust to a dynamic and changing construction environment in a professional manner.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.  Architectural or engineering design experience is preferred and graphic visualization skills will be considered a plus.  A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a closely related field is also required.

The Wildlife Conservation Society is a leader in innovative aquarium and zoo design, interpretive programming, and exhibitry. Our award winning wildlife exhibits draw people to our zoos and aquariums from around the globe.  The WCS saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to value nature.  WCS manages the world’s largest system of urban wildlife parks – the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo and Queens Zoo, as well as conservation programs in nearly 60 nations and in all the world’s oceans.
