Intern Architect 3 – an intern with 3-6 years of experience who has been authorized to test for licensure from a state licensing board. Exercises independent judgment in the evaluation, selection and use of standard techniques, solves problems when encountered, and receives guidance on complex projects. Possesses a commitment to design excellence, user experience, material health, social purpose and sustainability.

Essential Functions

• Actively perform high-level tasks and deliverables for one or more projects.

• Proficient in 3D model creation.                            

• Regularly perform tasks in the conceptual design phase.                                                                                          

• Create construction/permit documents.                                                                                                          

• Research and have a general understanding of building codes and other guidelines.                   

• Research permits and assist with permit coordination.

• Ability to accurately perform field verification of existing conditions.                                                                   

• Coordinate and communicate with consultants and contractors.                                                           

• Work at maximizing quality and efficiency in assigned tasks.

• Generate innovative design ideas that consistently capture the intended design vision.            

• Follow and capture intended design vision of the project.

• Bring fresh new ideas of design, with an eye for scale, balance and design elements.

• Produce complete package of project deliverables.

• Regularly perform work requiring independent judgment and discretion in the evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. 

• Assignments may require higher-level project responsibility and understanding for training/development purposes.       


• Ability and experience reading architectural drawings.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit required.

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suites required (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design).

• Proficiency with Sketch Up or Rhino required (Lumion and V-Ray for Sketch up is a plus).

• Lead Live Design meetings.

• Strong organizational skills, self-motivated and effective under pressure.

• Knowledgeable of industry terminology and standard construction methods / materials preferred.

• Dedicated and trustworthy person with extra attention to detail.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Supervisory Requirements

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

• This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, Oce Plotter, GoToMeetings, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

• Hand/Wrist/Finger dexterity for 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.

• Ability to lift a set of construction documents.

• Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Position Type/Hours expected to work

• This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week.


• Occasional local travel – less than 10%.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture required (accredited university preferred).

• Master of Architecture preferred.

• 3-6 years of experience in architecture practice.

Work Authorization

• Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
