For the past years BIG has experienced a continuous growth, hence we are currently looking for a talented, motivated and ambitious Proposals Specialist (a newly established position) to join our expanding Operations and Business Development teams in New York.

As Proposals Specialist you will be responsible for preparing completed proposals for existing or prospective projects, ensuring that all tender requirements have been considered and that potential uncertainties in the tender material have been clarified to ensure that BIG is positioned with the best possible chance of success. To successfully develop a proposal, the Proposals Specialist must conduct a thorough analysis of contractual terms, scope, and timeline and interface with other consultants to understand the project at hand to be able to price and structure a proposal correctly. As BIG New York is operating in North and South America and elsewhere in the world, the Proposals Specialist must be comfortable operating in an international environment and have the ability to quickly grasp and analyze the industry specific requirements related to the state and/or country in question.

Additional to preparing proposals, the Proposals Specialist will be involved in estimating construction costs or substantiating that a design can be realized within a given construction budget as and when required in the tender process, and building a tool to benchmark internal and industry data.

You will be working within BIG’s Operations team, reporting to the Operations Director and you will have a strong working relationship to the Business Development team and our in-house Legal team.

Primary areas of responsibility

  • Liaise with Business Development, Project teams and the Operations team to diagnose requirements for specific RFPs, bids, new work proposals and requests for additional works
  • Manage the planning and collection of materials required for outgoing proposals, incl. proposals requiring coordination with external collaborators
  • Negotiate with collaborators and partners on BIG’s behalf for bid and competition entries
  • Develop budgets and plan execution roll out in close collaboration with other in-house experts. Liaise with in-house and external consultants like legal, operations etc.
  • Analyze and present project specific risks and opportunities to management
  • Be the guarantor that all outgoing bids represent the best in class in the industry in terms of completeness, appropriateness and that it demonstrates the best added value options to the client
  • Coordinate graphic design and visual presentation of hard copy and digital versions of the response documents (done by internal Business Development department)
  • Estimate construction cost when required as part of the tender phase
  • Engage with management on in-house discussions on pipeline portfolio
  • Build and maintain internal and industry benchmarks based on project type, location, size, etc.

The ideal candidate

  • Holds a Master degree within a relevant field; a degree in Construction Management and/or Architecture is highly preferred
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a similar role within the architecture, construction, developer or engineering industry
  • Experience in the United States, Canada and internationally
  • Strong interest in architecture, construction and the creative processes
  • Comfortable working while developing and optimizing internal procedures; an open approach to new ways of professional collaboration
  • Deep understanding of the architectural scope of services
  • Is fluent in English
