The Architectural Department Manager (DM) acts as the department Managing Architect and provides both leadership and professional expertise to the Architectural Team that consists of two (2) Architects, one (1) Engineer, and three (3) Architectural Drafters. The DM reports to the President and is a member of the NorthStar Leadership Team (LT) comprised of the President and Department Managers.


  • Manage the operations of the Architectural Department.
  • Meet Department financial goals.
  • Lead Business Development.
  • Report to the Leadership Team.
  • Provide technical oversight and coordination of project activities with clients, consultants, contractors, and staff.
  • Stamp and sign prepared documents as the Architect of Record.
  • Develop employees consistent with NorthStar Purpose, Values and Strategic Anchors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
  • Current License from the California Architects Board
  • Ten (10) or more years full-time professional experience as a Licensed Architect. 
  • At least 3 years direct experience supervising others.
  • Experience in all phases of architecture and engineering, including substantial and varied experience in project planning. 
  • Demonstrated record of successful project completion, including budget control and client satisfaction, is required, as is the ability to work within a team environment. 
  • Experience in budget development and oversight.
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing groups and/or initiatives.
