The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University invites applications for the position of Fabrication Lab Assistant Manager.

The successful candidate will report to and assist the Fabrication Lab Manager in the operations of the new integrated analog and digital fabrication laboratories housed in the College of Architecture and Environmental Designs new 107,000 SF building designed by Weiss/Manfredi. The candidate must possess a degree in architecture or a field relevant to the programs served and have at leastone year of advanced fabrication experience in a professional, academic and/or industry setting. The Assistant Manager will work through the Manager to collaborate with CAED faculty and administrators; maintain and continually improve equipment for a state of the art wood/metal shop and digital fabrication center; enforce effective access and safety protocols; assist in interviewing, training and supervising student assistants; guide and facilitate diverse academic user groups in the interest of advancing a culture of meaningful and experimental making.

Preferred qualifications include experience operating and training others to use the following digital equipment systems: 3D printing, CNC milling, laser cutting, 3D scanning, and robotic arms.Experience using software for 3D modeling, scripting and/or controlling robotic, CNC, and/or Arduino systems is beneficial. The successful candidate will have experience using and maintaining woodworking and metalworking equipment, and have the ability to creatively integrate traditional analog fabrication methods with emerging digital techniques. The position requires proficient verbal and written communication skills, 20/20 vision (naturally or with correction), training in First Aid andCPR, and the ability to lift equipment and materials typical to construction and fabrication environments. A capacity for providing instruction within a university setting and developing anexpanded network of local and regional industry partnerships is preferred and encouraged.
