We are a mid-size residential contractor specializing in high-end apartment and townhouse renovations in Brooklyn and Manhattan. We estimate all of our own work in-house. Our estimators work closely with one of the two partners who oversees all of the Estimating here. Experience in this field is a plus, but we are happy to train the right person if the personality and aptitude is a good fit. What WILL BE required, at a minimum, is an ability to read and interpret Architectural and Engineering plans and specifications (you will be tested on this as part of the application process).

Estimating in our industry (high-end, single-family residential renovation) is not what one typically learns about in school – ie, building bids using takeoffs and unit costs – that is more of a commercial construction estimating technique. The estimating process here is more varied and interesting, and more challenging. It is not just an arithmetic / plug-and-play process, but one that demands intelligence and analytical skills to be applied to the entire process, from an initial poring-over of the bid package to the submission of the bid to the client, which needs to be absolutely complete and accurate. (Also, if you are to get into Project Management, estimating is a great way to get immersed and knowledgeable about this field). Once you have completed a year as an estimator with us, you will be promoted to Assistant Project Manager, if desired

  • Meeting deadlines—and making sure others meet them—is key
  • Solid Microsoft Office Excel and Word and Adobe Acrobat skills required
