We're building the go-to marketplace for home renovation by changing the way homeowners and general contractors find and work with one another.

The Licensed Architect will play a crucial role in meeting the needs of Sweeten’s residential and commercial clients. Beginning as a consultant working 10-20 hours per week, the goal of the Licensed Architect will be to provide exceptional customer service while exemplifying Sweeten’s ethos. Throughout the initial period of part-time consulting work, the Licensed Architect will have the opportunity to help define and shape a full-time architect role which, in the best case scenario over the long term, will multiply into many architect roles as the company grows. Should the Licensed Architect prove to be a great fit with Sweeten as a consultant, Sweeten would aim to bring the Architect on full-time as an employee. The position will be based out of our Manhattan office and require onsite visits to clients throughout the NYC metropolitan area.

We are looking for a self-starter who is excited by the prospect of helping customers ready to renovate, as well as establishing the gold standard of Sweeten architectural services. The candidate should be a comfortable working independently yet also excel in collaborating with cross-functional teams.


  • Provide exceptional service to Sweeten renovators in need of an architect
  • Collaborate enthusiastically and effectively with Sweeten general contractors
  • Conduct site visits throughout New York City, Long Island and Westchester
  • Produce permit ready drawings for residential and commercial projects
  • Submit permits through the Department of Buildings (DOB)
  • Submit and process plans through coop-boards or other necessary institutions
  • Create architectural designs based on customer input and feedback
  • Prepare and execute client contracts pursuant to specific consultations
  • Adjust contracts and designs to meet the changing needs of clients
  • Adhere to all industry standards in design
  • Communicate with contractors and construction workers to implement designs


  • 5+ years’ experience in residential architectural design
  • NAAB accredited bachelor's degree in architecture, with M. Arch preferred
  • Active license to practice architecture in New York State
  • Extensive experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to travel throughout New York City, Long Island and Westchester
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Strong follow-up skills via phone & email
  • Passion for problem solving, relentless drive and a collaborative spirit
  • Familiarity with NYC filing procedures a plus (but not required)
  • Registration with National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) a plus (but not required)
  • LEED, green building, WELL Building, Passive House, or other environmental sustainability training, credentials or experience a plus (but not required)
