SmithGroupJJR is launching a plan to offer architectural services in-house at our Madison office, therefore we are looking to grow the team.  We have an exciting opportunity for an Entry Level Architect interested in building our talented team.   

Working with us, you will:

  • Assist more senior architects in the preparation of architectural drawings, renderings and design assignments.
  • Perform specific/limited portions of architectural assignments under direct supervision and/or perform certain assignments under general supervision.
  • Document changes to architectural drawings as instructed.
  • Consult with manufacturers, research and evaluate materials.
  • Advance designs developed by others as well as design portions of projects under direct supervision.
  • Prepare presentation drawings and assist with presentations both internally and externally.
  • Assist in construction administration including responding to RFI’s, prepare sketches and addenda (CCD’s), visit the construction site to gather information, prepare site observation reports and/or review  punch lists.
  • Contribute proactively to the project team.
  • Receive and follow directions for project assignments.
  • Manage own time based on directions given.
  • Create graphics and research information for inclusion in marketing proposals and materials.
  • Participate in local professional association events/educational sessions.

An ideal candidate:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • 1 to 5 years’ work experience in the profession.
  • LEED accreditation (preferred).
  • Enrolled in or completed an intern development program such as the NCARB Architectural Experience Program (AXP).
  • On-the-job experience using Revit to produce construction documents.
  • Proficiency using current design software (Revit, Sketch Up) as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using some or all of the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design). 
  • Ability to contribute to and participate in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate ideas well both graphically and verbally.

SmithGroupJJR offers competitive compensation and an excellent benefit package, including 401(k) and continuing educational reimbursement. We offer 3 weeks of paid time off within the first year of employment, with the option of purchasing additional time off, and pay for 8 federal holidays. We also offer an alternative work schedule that provides employees with an additional 15 days off per year (usually Fridays) to help with work/life balance.
