We work as prime architect and as preservation architect on teams led by other firms, and have excellent and longstanding relationships with leading Northern California architecture firms and owners of historic properties, including prominent universities and former military bases. Our small firm has a wide variety of project types, including rehabilitation/preservation/restoration, preservation planning, and documentation/architectural history.

Ideal candidate will have a B.S. in architecture and a certificate or master’s degree in preservation, or a professional degree in architecture with 2+ years’ experience in preservation practice. Familiarity with architectural documents for rehabilitation of historic buildings is essential; experience in observation and documentation of building conditions; application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties; application of the National Register/California Register Criteria; and competent preparation of written documents are highly important. A strong foundation in American architectural history and knowledge of preservation theory and practice are also vital. Candidates will also apply their experience in analysis and document preparation for NEPA/Section 106/CEQA; research and preparation of Historic Structure Reports; graphic design (InDesign, etc.) of documents; interest in working on business development proposals is a plus.

Essential computer skills: Word, Excel, AutoCAD. Also desirable: Revit, SketchUp, GIS, PhotoShop/Illustrator, web design.
