The Job Captain will be responsible for leading clients through the planning and schematic design process, through construction administration. You will manage multiple aspects of client, team and project coordination including full documentation coordination. You will interact with clients, vendors, contractors, engineers, and SAA colleagues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs thorough QA/QC review of projects throughout office.
  • Lead the team effort in code and zoning review.
  • Assist PM and PD in determining required hours for development of Work Plan.
  • Responsible for all MEP and structural engineering coordination required for CDs.
  • Can successfully coordinate MEP’s/structural with our drawings (without assistance).
  • Responsible to fully research and coordinate, document and submit all plan check corrections with applicable city agencies and engineers.
  • Responsible to fully research and coordinate requirements of vendors such as A/V, cabling and security and correctly document required infrastructure in CDs.
  • Responsible to fully address construction issues in field and provide appropriate direction to GC/Subs.
  • Diverse knowledge of architectural principals and practice, uses advanced techniques and has responsibilities for finished plans, specifications and material approval (CS).
  • Coordinates all project production and coordination efforts.
  • Serves as a client liaison to bring the project in on time and within the budget.
  • Has an understanding of SAA financial reports (project progress and detail reports) as it relates to project profits.
  • Manage budget and schedule of more complex projects.
  • Can effectively communicates “add service”.
  • Prepares work plans, program and schedules.
  • Can space plan (in front of a client) up to 5,000 square feet.
  • Acts independently regarding architectural /design methods.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Will supervise/mentor a small staff of drafters/designers on a project basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or seven or more years’ progressive relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8 or more years' experience in corporate interior design projects and tenant improvement.
  • Competent and knowledge of 2016 California Building Codes and Title 24 Code Compliance.
  • Ability to learn and grasp new concepts quickly with a willingness to learn and accept new challenges.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Multi-tasking ability and good judgment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks against deadlines and other metrics.
  • Self-starter, motivated, takes initiative, has strong work ethic.
  • Computer skills should include AutoCad, Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, SketchUp and 3D Max (or similar platform).

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is an Exempt Full Time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL

This position requires up to 20% local travel. Limited travel may include attending meetings and work sessions in other SAA Offices, Client Offices, or Job Site. Mileage will be reimbursed at predetermined market rate. Individual must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and have reliable transportation.
