NYC - Enclosure Specialist

Our headquarters are located outside the US and over four years ago we started an affiliate in New York that today has 200+ employees. We are a company experiencing steady growth and are currently seeking a full time Enclosure Specialist to support our growing number of projects in development. You will be responsible for the assisting Senior Staff in the technical exterior enclosure activities required on a wide variety of BIG projects. You will lead and/or supervise exterior en closure technical studies and investigations, assisting the BIG project team in the production of projects on schedule, within budget and of high technical quality.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Design Review, including:

    • Understanding the exterior enclosure of both new and existing buildings

    • Develop appropriate exterior enclosure details and review of products/assemblies

    • Assist in the development of cost estimates, proposals, and project schedules

    • Learn and operate building enclosure related software

  • Construction Document Preparation, including:

    • Drawing exterior enclosure details and review of specifications

    • Ability to identify potential for water penetration, condensation, air leakage and heat loss

    • Understanding of continuity and placement of primary control layers

    • Compatibility of adjacent enclosure assemblies

    • Appropriate levels of detail for construction

    • Product and Assembly Assessment and Testing

    • Applicability and limitations of test protocols and standards

  • Construction Administration, including:

    • Compliance with construction documents and design intent

    • Review submittals and shop drawings

    • Building enclosure commissioning and consulting

    • Perform construction site visits to verify system performance and testing which will include working at heights

We seek a person who:

  • 10+ years of Building Enclosure experience able to provide location specific separation between the uncontrolled exterior environment and our projects’ controlled interior conditions
  • Has a professional degree in Architecture from an accredited university
  • Is a Registered Architect in the State of New York (other state registration also preferred)
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of New York City and IBC Building Codes and Regulations
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of complex architectural design and documentation
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of industry standards, current product development and “Standard of Care” architectural practices
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of progressive sustainable design practices and Energy Conservation Codes compliance (New York City and International).
  • Demonstrates general architectural practice including programming, site planning, as well as civil, structural, and mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Demonstrates proficiency in word processing including BIM coordination and implementation of architectural specifications
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of contract language, liability, indemnifications, and other risk management considerations
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of international architectural standards and practices
