M. Cohen and Sons is seeking a creative and self-motivated individual to design and detail high-end architectural building features for largescale building projects nationwide. The applicant would be responsible for architectural and production drawings that follow the project from an early design concept through production and final installation. There is room for growth for those who demonstrate the desire and ability to adapt and understand the complexities involved in custom fabrication.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Develop detailed technical drawings for coordination with architects, engineers and other building trades.
  2. Produce accurate shop fabrication drawings according to shop standards.
  3. Create advanced 3d parametric models to communicate with design professionals and shop personnel. 
  4. Produce detailed installation drawings for use by Site Installers.
  5. Prepare thorough material and hardware takeoffs to deliver to the Purchasing Department.
  6. Provide verbal and written support to Project Managers, Shop Mechanics and Site Installers.
  7. Frequently meet with Shop Mechanics to troubleshoot on the shop floor.
  8. Evaluate site install logistics to prepare for project installations.
  9. Attend in-house project review meetings.
  10. Read and understand building construction documents.
  11. Understand common building systems for design coordination. 
  12. Frequently collaborate with members other departments.
  13. Frequently visit onsite fabrication facilities for project troubleshooting.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • 4-10 years of architectural design experience.
  • Ability to read and understand building construction documents.
  • Must work well in a team environment and have good communication skills.
  • Must be meticulous, with great attention to detail.
  • Experience in hands-on fabrication or construction is a plus.
  • Develop advanced 3d parametric models to communicate with design professionals and shop personnel. 
  • Understand common building systems, for design coordination.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Experience using Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor is preferred.
  • Rhino modeling experience is a plus.

Position type/ expected hours of work

This is a full-time position. Work schedule is Monday through Friday. Some overtime may be required per business demands.
