Katsina in Hopi Life Exhibition

This was a highly experiential exhibition that sought to integrate audio, video, artifacts, handleables and sound into a transportational experience that would recreate the environment of the Hopi mesas in Arizona. As the Exhibition Designer it was my job to create many of these immersive visitor experiences corresponding to calendar month of the Hopi growing season. Tools for creating these stories included large scale graphics, Hopi patterns repeated in both vinyl and milled wood panels, stucco-textured walls, digital and analog interactives, sourced and custom built furniture and casework. Much of the custom casework was designed with the landscape of the Hopi mesas in mind and also with the intent of reuse (something often overlooked in Exhibition Design). The system I developed was tested in the earlier Art Along the Hyphen Exhibition and allows the vitrined pedestals to be reconfigured on a base grid in endless combinations making the cases highly adaptable to future exhibitions.
