AIA Henry Adams Medal, 1st Place

Sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, the AIA Henry Adams Certificate and Medal are considered to be the most important awards given to graduating students. They are awarded for “general excellence in architecture” throughout the course of study. The medal is awarded to the most qualified student, and the certificate is awarded to the runner-up. Selection is made by the entire faculty.

The Jurists’ Award, a book award, is conferred by visiting jurors and critics upon the student(s) who has achieved the greatest personal growth as a designer, and whose work has contributed to the overall success of the fourth-year Design Studio.

Fourth Year Faculty Book Award, 1st Place

This award is a book selected by the fourth-year faculty and is presented to a fourth-year students selected on the basis of ‘design excellence’.

Brick Industry Association Award, 1st Place

The reviewers selected the winning projects by looking at how the students utilized brick as both a design and construction material in their project and felt that the winning projects were the most successful in their use of brick.

Brasfield + Gorrie Design Award, 1st Place

This year’s assignment was for students to redesign the Aiken Village Family Housing units on campus into a new “eco-village” for future student housing. First place, which will split a $1,000 prize, was team 14, “The Biodynamic Community.” Group members were Meg Jackson (Interior Design), John Taylor Schaffhauser (Architecture), Mark Simpson (Building Construction Science) and Haley Whiteman (Architecture).
